Assyst Plus is an active Mercedes-Benz service system that monitors vehicle usage and displays information on the dashboard about the need for maintenance (A or B, with numbers for specific tasks) based on time or mileage, facilitating diagnostics and planning in the workshop. The system is activated using button combinations on the multifunction steering wheel, which vary depending on the model.
It is important to understand that the system can function correctly, helping the owner and technical staff to determine the scope of maintenance work, only if all planned work has been carried out throughout the entire life cycle. That is why it is so important that the specialists you trust with the maintenance of your car really know what they are doing.
A simple example:
Brake fluid is usually changed every two years or approximately every 40,000 km. Let’s assume that ASSYST assumed that it would be replaced during the current maintenance, but ASSYST does not explicitly state that it needs to be replaced, but implies this when compiling the work code for the service centre. Furthermore, the service centre employee, who does not know how to work with ASSYST correctly, does not change the brake fluid, but simply resets the ASSYST service indicator, so the car is sure that the fluid has been replaced and will not issue a code containing the replacement at the next service. As a result, the procedure is violated and the car is not serviced properly.
